[Congratulations] Prof. Chi-Yun Liu Wins SDG 7 Silver Award for "Smart Operation Management in High-Tech Plants"
Congratulations to Assistant Professor Chi-Yun Liu and her team from our department for winning the Silver Award in SDG 7 "Affordable and Clean Energy" at the Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards. Led by Prof. Liu, the research project titled "Smart Operation Management in High-Tech Plants" was honored with the SDG 7 Silver Award in recognition of its outstanding cross-disciplinary sustainability practices, fully demonstrating our department's profound R&D strength in green technology and sustainable governance. Integrating Smart Technologies to Build Verifiable Decarbonization Models In response to the global net-zero emissions trend and the transformation demands of the high-tech industry, Prof. Chi-Yun Liu’s team innovatively integrated deep learning with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) technologies. They successfully established a "quantifiable and verifiable" smart energy-saving and carbon-reduction management model for high-tech facility systems. The core mechanisms of this project encompass: • Energy Consumption Forecasting & Management: Utilizing big data analysis to accurately understand plant energy usage patterns. • Equipment Fault Early Warning: Introducing smart preventive diagnostics to ensure the operational stability of plant facilities. • Supply Chain Risk Analysis: Comprehensively evaluating and mitigating potential risks in manufacturing processes and the operational environment. • Building Material Recycling: Incorporating circular economy principles to realize the sustainable regeneration of construction resources. This technology has been validated in actual plant environments, effectively helping the high-tech industry enhance smart operational efficiency and significantly boosting corporate ESG management capabilities. Practicing UN SDGs and Deepening Local and Industrial Connections UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) aims to "ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all." The selection committee noted that this award is a strong recognition of the team's tangible actions in "smart energy conservation and carbon reduction for factories and buildings," "energy transition," and "renewable energy technology applications." The project truly embodies the spirit of "leveraging smart technology to drive industrial energy savings, and using cross-disciplinary practices to connect deeply with local communities." It achieves breakthroughs in academic innovation while providing the industry with a concrete decarbonization pathway.
