The Department of Civil Engineering of Engineering College has invited Dr. Lucio Soibelman to deliver a keynote lecture.
The Department of Civil Engineering under the College of Engineering hosted the "2026 International Scholar Lecture" on October 14, 2026. This special event featured Dr. Lucio Soibelman—Fred Champion Professor of Engineering, Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), and Member of the National Academy of Construction (NAC)—as the keynote speaker. The topic of the lecture was "Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Other Data-Driven Approaches for the Design, Operations, and Construction of Smart and Advanced Infrastructure Systems."
The lecture drew a full house of students and faculty from the Department of Civil Engineering and the College of Engineering. During the Q&A and interactive session, NTUT faculty and students actively raised questions on critical issues such as "the real-world challenges of implementing AI technologies on construction sites," "data integration for smart cities and rural areas," and "cultivating interdisciplinary skills for future civil engineering professionals." Drawing upon his rich academic experience and global perspective, Academician Soibelman provided thorough answers and engaged in brilliant, in-depth academic discussions with the audience, creating a highly vibrant atmosphere.
In addition, prior to the lecture, Academician Soibelman toured the campus and the University History Museum accompanied by academic leaders of the Civil Engineering Department. He spoke highly of NTUT's deep engineering heritage and outstanding research capability. The International Scholar Lecture concluded with warm applause from all attendees, not only broadening the international academic horizons of faculty and students, but also laying a solid foundation for future transnational academic collaboration and exchanges between both institutions.
